Ok so January has past by and perhaps a few of your new year resolutions were lost in a haze of 50% off sales and Sunday arvo cocktail fests. Many of us no doubt made an all too familiar promise to ourselves that 2014 was going to be the year of health and fitness but all of a sudden life happens and it becomes all too hard. February is here and pretty soon we’ll be saying “I can’t believe it’s halfway through the year”, and then before you know it you’ll be making the same new year resolution again for 2015. Often the difficulty comes with motivation or lack of information on where to start. I’ve discovered Her Fitness Box is the perfect reminder once a month that you need to stay on track of your fitness goals.
Tanning is healthy. Fake tanning that is. It’s not only better for your skin but it’s a great confidence booster too. However I know what you’re all thinking – orange. Orange wrists, orange hands, orange feet, orange knees, and orange elbows. This is exactly what I was thinking when my girlfriend insisted I try this new tanning product she had great success with. And again, I know what you’re thinking. There is always a story about a friend of a friend who raved about a tanning product. You’re hopeful and end up trying the product, only to feign surprise when your feet end up resembling something that you buffed for far too long with your bronzer.
Well I actually have a true story about a product that did work for me and I have the photographic evidence to prove it! I used the Loving Tan 2Hr Express Self Tanning Mousse in Medium with the applicator mitt which I highly recommend. It helps apply the mousse evenly and keeps your hands tan free. I reveal all about the other product, my secret weapon from Mecca Cosmetica, in my tips below.
My trouble is finding a scrub that claims to give a deep scrub but never lives up to my expectations. For anyone that loves a gritty exfoliator that makes you feel like you have given your skin a really great scrub, this scrub is for you. I recently discovered GLAMGLOW’s Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment and I think it’s safe to say I won’t be looking back. It was designed as a 10 minute professional ‘facial in a jar’ for behind-the-scenes use in Hollywood’s entertainment industry. The mud base is from the South of France Mediterranean Sea (think Cannes, St Tropez and Monaco…) and the ingredients list explains everything – volcanic minerals, French sea clay, purified clay, micro volcanic rock, real pieces of green tea leaf (think antioxidant!), and the list goes on.
A quick post to let you all know the blog is back up and running! I wanted to share a few photos that I’ve posted over the last few months on my Facebook page, Instagram and Twitter. These are photos that you won’t catch on the blog and are little pieces of my world.
One of my all time favourite beauty products is The Body Shop Brazil Nut Body Butter. I have been using it for over ten years now and it’s an all over body moisturiser that can double as a perfume and is incredibly nourishing for the skin. Even better news is that it’s just been released in a body mist which is absolutely divine. It’s a light scented body mist that has an addictive sweet smell that is tempting to taste! The scent is a combination of brazil nut, shea and cocoa butter that reminds me of the summertime, laying in the sunshine, and sea salt tresses from swimming in the ocean. You will no doubt feel very luxurious in indulging in either of these products. I highly recommend trying these out in store and I’m sure you’ll be as addicted as I am.
Every year I say the same thing, and I’m sure you all do too, and that is I’ll start my Christmas shopping early. We’re halfway through the year and before we know it Christmas will be here, we’ll be stressed out thinking of gift ideas, and the shops will be manic.
I’m always on the lookout for gifts that are great to give to girlfriends, or a little something extra to add to a gift, and of course they have to be great value while still being high quality. Now is the perfect time to start stock piling some gifts to take the pressure off at the end of the year. Here are my top gifts that are not only great for Christmas but for birthdays too –

Now when it comes to mascara I have tried them all – Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Nars, Clinique, Smashbox, Maybelline, Lancome, Benefit, Giorgio Armani, Christian Dior…… and the list goes on – but there is only one mascara I have ever stayed loyal to and that’s Kevyn Aucoin.
Some of you may have never heard of Kevyn Aucoin before, and most of you may not realise you would have seen him in the Sex and the City episode “The Real Me”, where he was doing Carrie Bradshaw’s makeup for the fashion show she walked in during New York’s Fashion Week. I first learnt of Kevyn Aucoin in 1999 when I was given his best selling book “Making Faces”.
Throughout his 20 year career Kevyn Aucoin was one of the most influential and in demand makeup artists in the beauty industry. He was known to refuse to do the makeup of models he felt were too young, and he applied his self taught techniques to the faces of A-list celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts, Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Sharon Stone, Elizabeth Hurley, Elizabeth Taylor, Madonna and Janet Jackson. At his peak, he would often be booked months in advance and could command as much as $6,000 for a makeup session. He was one of the highest paid celebrity makeup artists in history.
We’ve seen “The Lob” before thanks to Kate Moss, Gwyneth Paltrow, Olivia Palermo, and Jessica Alba, and true to the cycle of fashion the Lob is back on trend and I think it’s here to stay.
Alexa Chung has long been wearing this style but it’s my fashion icon Nicole Richie who has revived my love for it. Delta Goodrem and Jennifer Lawrence have also started sporting the style and all ladies have shown the flexibility of the Lob by wearing it as a textured, shaggy bob, with natural beachy waves, a straightened, layered look, or as a slicked back ultra chic bob that would rival any runway style.
The “lob” is a longer version of the bob and has a length that falls between the chin and collarbone. It’s perfect for anyone growing out their shorter style, or for girls with long hair that want a change but don’t want to go too short.
There is one classic look that will always be in style, and that’s a strong red lip (my current obsession) and a red nail (my all time favourite).
My admiration for a red lip goes as far back as I can remember and my hopes of ever wearing it were quickly squashed after a fateful encounter a few years ago with a Chanel lipstick that was supposed to suit anyone. After falling in love with the Hourglass brand I noticed recently that their Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Icon was quickly becoming a cult product. I decided to trust the reviews and cure my curiosity by going into my local Mecca Maxima store and reviewing it for myself. From that moment on I completely fell in love!
First of all welcome to my blog and thank you for being a part of my first post! I’ve been searching to find a creative outlet for my love of fashion and beauty that went further than experimenting with outfits and looks, and flicking through the latest fashion and gossip magazines. I started to think that writing a fashion and beauty blog for my friends (and of course for myself and anyone else that wants to come along for the ride!) would be a great way to take this love for fashion and beauty one step further and see where it can take me!
