dry

Welcome to Day 4!  On this final day we are looking at how to care for a dry skin type.  A dry skin occurs due to the outer layers of your skin losing their ability to maintain normal moisture levels.  Your skin will start to have a dry, tight, uncomfortable feeling and flakiness or redness may also occur.  Other causes to a dry skin can be overexposure to the sun and sometimes even the skincare products you are using due to their irritating or drying ingredients.

A dry skin is in desperate need of some TLC and this post can help you with that!

normal

So what exactly is a normal skin type?!  Normal skin in a nutshell is when you don’t see any problems on your skin.  Does your skin feel equally normal in all areas (so not oily or dry)?  And any oiliness or dryness you may experience is easily fixed?  You are lucky enough to not have enlarged pores, and minimal fine lines and wrinkles?  Your skin tone is even without any pigmentation or brown marks/spots on your face?  If you are saying “yes, yes, yes!” welcome to Day 3 and a normal skin type!

Combination

Does this sound like you – some parts of your face are dry or flaky, while the t-zone is oily?  Or do you have breakouts as well as dry skin or possibly rosacea at the same time?  Well welcome to Day 2 of how to care for a combination skin type!

So here it goes, Day 1 and we are starting with an oily skin type.

Now this is my category and it can be annoying at the end of the day when all you want to look is effortlessly airbrushed but instead you look like an oil slick.  Well I have excellent news for all my fellow oily ladies out there – being oily can be a great thing!  Being oily does mean that the skin is not dry, therefore we will most likely have less wrinkles as we get older.  The drier the skin the more fine lines and wrinkles start to appear.  Ok, I’m hearing you, enough said and let’s get to the tips!

After working in the beauty industry for a few months I have had the advantage of being able to test the best of the best, and quickly learn about some must-have products and great tips that I’d like to share with you all.  Over the next four days I am going to give you hints and tips on products to use that are relevant to your skin type, filling you in on the beauty essentials you need right now!

Tomorrow is Day 1 and I’ll be looking at the oily skin type which is my category.  For my fellow oily skin ladies I have good news for you about being oily, so make sure you visit tomorrow to get the insider tips!

To start things off I am going to offer my number one tip for ALL skin types.  Now this is an absolute must-do which may seem obvious but not to all.  You must MUST cleanse and moisturise your skin morning and night.  Yes, even if you haven’t worn makeup that day.  I never NEVER go to bed with a face full of makeup.  This is my number one rule and tip that I strongly encourage you all to take on, regardless of whether you have normal, oily, dry or combination skin.

Well I’m off to cleanse my face and I’ll speak to you all tomorrow!

Recently I felt very compelled to write this blog post after being shocked and disappointed at an Instagram photo posted by a well known sport star’s also well known wife.  This post is not an attack on the person, who I am sure is a very lovely person, however I did feel I needed to write about the message I felt it sent.  Unhealthy body image.  Now I know this topic has been overdone, debated far and wide, and everyone has their own opinion, but I think a few truths need to be aired.

Skincare Products

Following on from my last post on a healthy haircare regime, I thought I should share with you all my skincare regime and the importance of it.  From as early as I can remember my Mum instilled in me the importance of eye cream, and always made sure I had good quality cleansers and moisturisers.  I have continued that belief into my adult life and over the past few years have become loyal to a few products.

Products

Just like the key to healthy skin, you need a haircare regime to look after the health of your locks.  Moroccanoil is the original and leader in Argan Oil hair products.  I love using my Moroccanoil as an overnight treatment in my hair and they also have a great Extra Volume shampoo and conditioner range which I’m always in desperate need of.  Like most of us I am regularly styling my hair and something like the Heat Styling Protection Spray is a lot lighter on the hair rather than the oil.

It’s important to invest in your hair and to save your pennies shop the Moroccanoil range at up to 50% off here.

When my colourist tells me he wants to try the latest highlighting technique on me I don’t say no.  Turns out that balayage is so last year and splashlights is so 2014!

Credited with inventing the infamous balayage/ombre technique, colourist Aura Friedman has an impressive track record of starting new hair trends.  Friedman first started the splashlights technique on some of her celebrity clientele a year ago.  The look originated as a horizontal band of bleached-out strands around the base of the head, almost resembling a halo or a ray of light around the mid section of your hair.  This version is a lot more defined and has what I would call a sharp edge to it.  My amazing colourist has taken a softer approach with the Splashlights technique, giving me more of a blended look while still keeping the darker tones at the roots.  We have recently seen Kim Kardashian go back to a rich, beautiful brunette shade with the splashlight technique replacing her ombre blonde look.
