Current mood = need to wear winter fashion! The tease of winter fashion is too much for me to bare. Sleeveless vests are a great tailored piece to add to your wardrobe along with a skinny leather pant. I have a lot of girlfriends say to me that they haven’t invested in a pair because perhaps their significant other isn’t the biggest fan of them…..but don’t we dress to impress each other and please ourselves rather than the boys?! And we all know that this staple pant is something that features season after season and they pair perfectly with tees and oversized knits! TIP: leather can be expensive so before making the big investment try experimenting with a coated jean or pant that gives the effect like the ones featured in this look.

Every girl has a guaranteed sure thing in their wardrobe, right? Well if not you must invest immediately! It’s important that you feel confident and comfortable with a go-to outfit in your wardrobe should all else fail. My go-to is definitely a black skinny jean or pant, stripes, an ankle strap heel, and my aviators. The key is to keep it simple with staple pieces in good quality fabrics. The best thing about this outfit is I can effortlessly change it to a PM look with a slick low bun and red lip. Voila!

If there is one thing I need in the cooler months it’s a great coat to get me through. I feel the cold terribly and I’m usually that person that longs for the summer. Now, I can’t believe I am going to say this but bring on autumn and winter! In my part of the country the summer is long and the heat can be relentless. Combine that with being teased by sneak peaks of autumn/winter collections and it’s enough to make you want to relocate! Witchery’s AW15 runway show was everything that I love in fashion – minimalistic, clean lines, and enough black, grey, cream and leather to keep me happy for the next two seasons. The key standout for me was the maxi coat. It’s long line design, front deep pockets, contrasting buttons, and of course the grey made it a must have piece for me. This is a coat that will see any girl right through the week, and don’t be afraid to drape this over something unexpected like a delicate silk or lace dress. Now all I need is a cool day…..!

While summer is still upon us I’m taking advantage of being able to wear a combo that is still very much on trend for 2015 – white on white. It’s a fresh look that requires minimal fuss and will highlight that summer glow you’ve been working on. Keep the shoe simple and open to elongate the leg, and warm up the look with a gold accessory or two. My outfit is from Country Road however you can also find two beautifully structured tops here and here, and white pencil skirts here and here.
By now most of us have returned to work and the real world. We have managed to fill the first day back with general office chit chat, catching up on what’s been happening in our colleague’s lives over the Christmas break, and of course going through the hundreds of emails we received over the break (mostly spam). The second day hits and you are wondering “what happened to my holidays?!”, and thinking “perhaps I really could live off a minimal wage to be a lady of leisure full time”. The only way to cure this shock to the system for me was to return to work with a new LBD and shoes. There’s nothing like the excitement of wearing a new outfit you feel fantastic in, and this is something you will definitely need when returning to work after the summer break! I had been searching high and low for a pair of nude pumps that were just the right shade of nude and not patent leather. A task that I quickly learnt was almost impossible! I finally found a pair in Tony Bianco who always make a great pump – check them out here – and my dress is from Zara. A LBD is of course a must in any girl’s wardrobe. It can take you from day to night and I’ve been pairing mine with a blazer for work. Both of these items are staples which means they give you a guaranteed outfit option for the days when you just need a reliable friend!
Welcome to 2015 everybody! Or as the French would say, bienvenue à 2015! It’s about that time of year again when everyone thinks about what the new year will hold. If you follow the Chinese Zodiac it’s the year of the Sheep, so for all you Sheep/Goat/Ram people you may experience some road blocks in your career but if you persist and work hard, you will reap the rewards in the coming year. Money wise you need to look at reducing daily expenses so no January sales for you (!), health wise you need to avoid eating greasy foods (isn’t that everybody?! Who makes these predictions anyway?!!), and relationship wise look to communicate to avoid an argument. For the rest of us we look to refresh and start the year with a new set of resolutions. I read a good piece of advice today – look to create new habits rather than resolutions. You could even look to create a new habit once a month, and by the end of the year you could have 12 new habits! For example, perhaps January is the month of exercise. Maybe you can commit to making that gym class every Saturday? February is giving up a certain junk food? You get the idea.
It’s also around this time that we reflect on the year that’s passed, and cannot believe how quickly another year has flown. It is definitely true what they say, that the older you get the quicker time flies. For me 2014 was full of great things. I had a few months off at the start of the year after being made redundant in late 2013 (yes 2013 was a shit year) which was fantastic for the mind and body. I went on an amazing holiday with my husband to California in March/April and had a short stint in the Beauty Industry upon my return. The training, products, people and discounts that I was exposed to is something I miss. It was also a year to celebrate – I turned 30 which gave me an excuse to buy a very chic black jumpsuit, it was one year on from my husband’s open heart surgery (did I mention 2013 was a shit year?!), and a few friends welcomed some very adorable new little people into the world.
So what will 2015 bring we are all wondering? For me we started New Years Day off on a high by booking our flights to Europe and I’ve committed to going to my favourite gym class every Sunday. I’m also on a 30 day green smoothie challenge, looking to boost my body with energy and some great vitamins and just general goodness! It’s all about starting new habits and perhaps my gym class will turn into two nights a week, and my green smoothie challenge will go from 30 days to 365! I’ve had some time off the blog after working way too many hours in the last month or two at work (I returned to the Events Industry in late 2014), but this year I will be trying to work with the philosophy of “if it’s not done by 5:30pm it can wait until tomorrow”. That of course means that I should have time to commit to the blog which is something I do love to do and I hope you all enjoy it.
I’ll finish my first blog of 2015 by saying Happy New Year and I wish you all a great year in achieving your goals, and the best in health and happiness. And if you are feeling inspired, here is two of my current favourite green smoothie recipes!
Beginner’s Luck Green Smoothie (serves 2)
2 cups fresh spinach (tightly packed), 2 cups of water (can use coconut water as an alternative), 1 cup of mango, 1 cup of pineapple (I buy a can of the pineapple pieces), and 2 bananas. I’ve also added 1 tablespoon of chia seeds to this one. Chia Seeds are expensive but once you’ve spent the $10 on a packet, it will last you ages at 1 tablespoon per smoothie. Plus they are high in omega fatty acids which increase healthy brain function and are proven goodness for your heath in fighting cholesterol and heart disease.
Method: Blend spinach and water first. Then add and blend remaining ingredients.
Pineapple, Kale, Coconut Oil (serves 2)
2 cups fresh kale, 2 cups of water (again you could try coconut water on the second go), 2 cups of pineapple, 1 banana, and 2 tablespoons of coconut oil. I got a jar of coconut oil in the health food aisle. It was expensive, at around $10, but like the chia seeds it will last for ages and you’ll get more than a few smoothies out of it.
Method: as above!

Now that summer is right on our doorsteps I simply can’t get away with wearing jeans and pants for any longer! I need to start embracing a shorter hemline and letting those pillars of white shining light that I call my legs see the light of day! I feel more comfortable in free flowing pieces during the warmer months, and a flowy short is something all my fellow ladies need to add to their wardrobes. Pair these with strappy flat sandals and a crossbody bag for during the day, and take it through to night by adding a strappy heel and loose crop cutting off at the waist line. I took these two pieces home from my recent trip to the new Zara at Robina, and everyone can now shop online with Zara US through the new ShopMate initiative from Australia Post. Otherwise, shop the alternative pieces below to create a similar look. Shop responsibly….or not!!

My main focus these days is to build a wardrobe full of staples that can all pair together to create countless different outfits. It’s all about keeping it simple and adding only a few trend items each season that you are happy to part ways with once it’s so not in anymore. One of the key staples I’m working towards making my own is a leather pencil skirt. It’s a piece that will take you through all seasons and nearly all occasions. Starting with a base of a leather pencil skirt and pumps, you can almost interchange any top in your wardrobe to create a new look. Layer a few fine necklaces, grab a clutch, and you’re out the door quicker than you can say “I have nothing to wear!”.

After a few weeks hiatus I am back! The last few weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind to say the least. I started a new job which has taken every hour of my day but I’m making a stand and taking back my time! Before beginning my new job I squeezed in a long weekend to Port Douglas with the boy, and for anyone who hasn’t been I would highly recommend it. The flight into Cairns alone is beautiful. Coming from Brisbane my tip is to select a seat on the right side of the plane and you’ll get treated to an aerial view of the reef as you start to approach Cairns. Of course I have also managed to make a few purchases or two and add a few items to my wishlist! There were also a few valuable lessons in the last few weeks -
- SPF 4 or 6 is a big no no.
- Blush/nude pointy toe pumps that are not patent leather and don’t have a 15cm high stiletto heel do not exist.
- Trends aren’t for everybody. I do not understand the flat slides with rubber or cork bottoms that are everywhere at the moment.
- Wide leg pants are a must.
- An urgent request is rarely ever urgent.
- Give yourself something to look forward to so it makes the hard times more bearable. On Friday 24 October I’ll be in the same room as Rachel Zoe at the Business Chicks lunch and for me that is beyond!
- Above anything else, your health is the most important thing.
The below pretty much sums up my last few weeks (minus the stress) and my current must haves and inspiration. Until next time…… Xxx

Welcome to Day 4! On this final day we are looking at how to care for a dry skin type. A dry skin occurs due to the outer layers of your skin losing their ability to maintain normal moisture levels. Your skin will start to have a dry, tight, uncomfortable feeling and flakiness or redness may also occur. Other causes to a dry skin can be overexposure to the sun and sometimes even the skincare products you are using due to their irritating or drying ingredients.
A dry skin is in desperate need of some TLC and this post can help you with that!
